Evidence Eliminator Netscape Cleaning Options
Options
for Netscape Navigator Users
If
you are a user of Netscape Navigator versions 3,4 or 6, you can
configure Evidence Eliminator to suit the browser
installed. All evidence of your Netscape browsing is securely
eliminated.
Note the Netscape
cookie function works a little different from the Internet Explorer. In the
IE section you select individual cookies to keep. But in the Netscape
section, when you choose to keep one cookie for a domain, then all cookies
from that domain will be kept.
Eg: Select to save 1 cookie at hotmail.com. Then all cookies at hotmail.com
will be kept.
This function also removes the hidden memory of the last download directory
used to save files from Netscape.
The
JavaScript section works on two files used by NSN 4. The
files are prefs.js and liprefs.js. Hidden there is a memory
of web sites that you have visited. Evidence Eliminator
does not delete these files which are required by the browser.
It only cleans the memory URL's out of them and leaves the
rest of the data intact.
Auto-Detecting Netscape paths
The button named "Auto-Detect Netscape" will attempt to auto-detect all the
cache and cookie paths on your Netscape installation. This auto-detection is a
very difficult job. Evidence Eliminator usually succeeds to investigate
your Netscape installation correctly. If for any reason it cannot detect your
installed Netscape, the manual set-up instructions are below.
Help Manually Setting-Up Netscape paths (If necessary)
The procedure is very straightforward:
Here is the default installation folder for Netscape user info.
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\
Browse to that path in Windows Explorer.
In there you have folders for each user in Netscape. Go into your username folder.
For the username "default" you will now be browsing in
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\
Open Evidence Eliminator Options window at the NSN tab.
Here are the default (standard) settings in EE for Netscape.
You simply change the user name "default" in these paths, to your own user name.
You may do this with the "Browse" button, and easily browse to the
correct files and folders.
Cache folder
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\Cache\
Netscape.hst
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\netscape.hst
history.dat
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\history.dat
JavaScript folder
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\
Once set up, there should be no need to change these settings. If you back up
your "Data" folder in your Evidence Eliminator
installation, you may never have to change them again.
