Miscellaneous Cleaning functions
Clean Registry Enabled
This feature to automatically run Microsoft's RegClean utility.
This is essential for the next function (Compact Registry) and Highly
Recommended for all users. RegClean by Microsoft is a freeware utility.
Microsoft have recently ceased to distribute it, so we have a copy
on our Website at http://www.evidence-eliminator.cc/regclean.exe
or you can find it at www.clean-registry.com.
Safety Check
By
default this setting is not enabled. If you're a particularly nervous
newbie, you may tick this box for some extra peace of mind. If you
accidentally set up the system to delete a whole drive, or a large
directory, then you will receive a safety warning. In normal use,
this setting is not enabled. It will drive you nuts if you regularly
surf the net because you can download hundreds of files per hour
which will keep setting off the safety check warnings. It's there
if you need it though.
Stealth Mode
Enables complete Windows invisibility of the program with a HotKey
combination. The default is CTRL-ALT-E but you can change it.
In Stealth Mode, the operation of Evidence Eliminator is identical
to normal use, but it is invisible.
If you are running Microsoft RegClean from the Drive Ops - Clean
Registry section, the RegClean window will still appear.
Please note that after you press the Stealth Mode HotKey when the
program is very busy (scanning for files, or running RegClean) there
will be a momentary delay before the program responds. This is normal.
In Stealth Mode, any error messages will still be displayed. A list
of programs running on the system is always available from the Task
List ("Close Program") dialog box available by pressing
CTRL-ALT-DEL once.
You can enter Stealth Mode at any time Evidence Eliminator
is idle or running a task. You cannot enter Stealth Mode when the
Options window or other additional decision windows are open.
To run the Safe Shutdown or Safe Restart in Stealth Mode, start
the task as normal and immediately press the HotKey Stealth combination.
The program and system tray icon will vanish and the processing
will continue. If Evidence Eliminator is in Stealth Mode at the
moment of shutdown, it will remember this in DOS mode and display
only innocuous normal-looking screen messages like "It is now
safe to switch off your PC".
New users are strongly encouraged to become thoroughly familiar
with the software before using Stealth Mode on a regular basis.
This new feature makes it easy to leave Evidence Eliminator running
in busy environments.
Also, pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL to view the Task List ("Close
Program") dialog box cannot reveal the presence of the program.
In Stealth Mode, Evidence Eliminator is invisible in the
Task List.
Start Evidence Eliminator In Stealth Mode
You can set Evidence Eliminator to start in Stealth Mode at all
times. This enables you to have all the power and convenience of
the software available at all times, but be completely invisible
until you require it.
Shutdown Interception
This feature is designed for use with task schedulers. If you
have a daily shutdown schedule that runs a scandisk, virus checker,
etc, then shuts down your PC every day, this option allows you to
use Evidence Eliminator as part of your automated process. The best
procedure is not to load Evidence Eliminator at bootup, but to load
it at the beginning of your scheduled shutdown procedure (to give
the program ample time to load before you require it to begin work).
At the end of your scheduled shutdown procedure when you shut down
your PC, Evidence Eliminator will then take over the shutdown and
perform a Safe Shutdown or Safe Restart instead.
New in v4.0.5 and higher, the "Intelligent" option makes
Evidence Eliminator respond to the selection you have made off your
start menu. Choose Start Menu-Shutdown to bring up the "Shut
Down Windows" dialog box. Choose Shutdown to begin a Safe Shutdown,
or Restart to begin a Safe Restart. If you select any other shutdown
option like MS-DOS mode or "Standby", those are NOT intercepted
but they are allowed to proceed as normal.
Upgrading Evidence Eliminator
Within this section you will visit the Evidence Eliminator World-Wide-Web
site and check for Free upgrades etc.
Internet Explorer Integrated Commands
Explorer (Context Menu commands)
When you right-click your mouse on the Recycle Bin, or on Files
or Folders, you will see "Evidence Eliminator" options
in the pop-up context menus.
Shell Extensions
In this section you can choose to activate or de-activate the context
menu options. "Stealth" users will find this an advantage
when using an Evidence Eliminator installation on machines which
others may have access to. The changes you make are effective immediately.
Safety Messages
Choose whether or not to display a confirmation OK/Cancel box before
proceeding to securing the Recycle Bin or deleting files/folders.
AIM Tab
(For users of America OnLine services only)
Eliminates lists of other users who you have sent AOL Instant Messages
to.
Insert your AOL Screen Name / User Name (not your e-mail address)
in the box provided and check the option box to enable this function.
